Circe

by Madeline Miller

Circe takes place in the Greek mythology house of Helios, the Greek God of the Sun and the Oceanid Nymph Perse. From the moment of her immortal birth, Circe was unlike any of her fellow Greek Gods/ Goddesses/ Nymphs. Being not as naturally pretty that comes from being an immortal of having the voice of a goddess, she is quickly scorned and bullied among her peers.

Madeline Miller takes us through a thousand something years of Circe’s everyday life as she continues to grow and become her own person. We meet other mythological Gods/ creatures that follow closely to the original greek mythology tales. This is not a story to miss if you love mythology, romance, and fantasy!

Themes: greek mythology, romance, YA fantasy, historical fiction, magic

To Kill A Kingdom

by Alexandra Christo

I have to say, this was probably my favourite standalone that I’ve had the pleasure of reading in 2020. To Kill a Kingdom is a retelling of the classic Little Mermaid story.

It’s quite a dark YA fantasy, yet it has playful banter between the characters and of course a touch of romance and magic. This story was definitely a page turner for me and a book I would forever now recommend to people.

Themes: re-tellings, YA fantasy, mermaids/sirens, romance, magic, royalty, enemies to lovers
