So I know this section is clearly lacking, but here are just a few thriller/crime-related stories I recommend
Beronika Keres

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Trigger Warning: This novel isn’t for the younger audiences. There are scenes of drug/ drug intake, abuse, rape, stalking, gangs …. read at your own discretion.
If you are looking for the perfect dark thriller mashed with vampires, Cracked Coffins by Beronika Keres, might just be the book for you. Following our main lead, a 17 year old girl named Marianna, we follow as her life continues to be filled with horrifying events. This book really isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you decide that the trigger warning are alright for you, well then you’re in for quite a ride!

Laura Camby McCaskill

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’m rating this a 3.7 out of 5 Stars.
If you like thrillers with a supernatural twist, this might just be a book for you. The story follows around a 14-year-old, Tess, an orphan, and her guardian, Angela, as they arrive at a dark and creepy house. But the house isn’t just creepy appearing. When Tess is in danger, the house moans, and creaks. When it suddenly becomes cold, one of Tess’ dead brothers appears to protect her. As secrets slowly reveal themselves and Tess learns not only who she is, but who these ‘ghosts are’, she becomes close with Angela.
To be honest, the beginning wasn’t that eye-catching to me. It wasn’t until halfway through the book that I was suddenly invested in the storyline. The writing style is simpler than I’m used to, but as you get more comfortable with it, you actually feel like the simplicity makes the story raw and full of emotion. It’s quite direct in terms of writing style and Laura doesn’t bother painting a whole magical landscape for you all at once, which I enjoyed. I also enjoyed seeing Tess’ character develop as she continues to live in her new house and learn who these ghosts are through a series of flashbacks. Be prepared to go on a rollercoaster of emotions as by the end of the book I was in tears!

Paityn Parque

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I was not ready for this amazing dark thriller. Madness by Paityn Parque is dark, intense, highly imaginative by the author, and a page-turner. Be prepared to never put this down until the last page, because you will find yourself on the end of your seat from the beginning. The deadly game, the main theme of the storyline, is addictive to read but also gives anxiety to the reader as the mystery is slowly opening up. The danger is always near for Ezra and it’s be killed or kill.
Honestly, I really loved this novel and wished that I read it earlier. I was in a bit of a reading slump for a bit, and this was the perfect pick-me up. I enjoyed reading how all the pieces slowly came together while Ezra feared for her life. I look forward to reading what this author writes in the future. She’s definitely one you want to watch for!

Veronica Lancet

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Wow, wow, wow. Ok, Morally Decadent by Veronica Lancet is dark, sexy, alluring, and quite addicting to read. There’s just something about the writing style that really pulls you into this mafia romance. (Warning: there are triggers for this book). This story was intense in all the right ways and has the perfect enemies to lovers theme ragging throughout the pages. This is definitely not a story to miss! I’ll be sure to pick up any other books written by this author!
